The legacy of residential schools is felt today in many ways. In this short narrative film, we witness the way that gender norms are projected on to a young Indigenous student without regard for cultural identity. This film is a part of the ReelYouth Youth Community Stories project.
Content Note
The first 35 seconds of the film shows black and white photography from residential “schools”, including a side-by-side image of a child wearing traditional dress and hair and a child in clothes and hair chosen by the residential “school”.
